During this week St John Fisher Catholic High School recharged their spiritual batteries. It was appropriate that this was the week when we celebrated the Feast of St Peter and St Paul as mission was their contribution to the early church, and without them the story of Jesus would not have spread. We marked the feast with Mass celebrated by Father John Warrington and were pleased that the mission team were able to be part of this by providing the music.
 
Performing over the week were
 
Steve Murray  a professional mime artist. He travels all over the world presenting the Gospel in a fresh, unique and original style.
 
Hamish MacQueen  the Director of the Diocesan Youth Service. He regularly leads retreat and mission days in schools and parishes throughout East Anglia. He will be joined by a team of volunteers.

It was of huge significance to us as a Catholic community and was a very successful few days. I am aware that some of our staff and students attended the Beatification Mass in Birmingham on Sunday and many of us spotted father Michael distributing holy communion, but the main event for us was the Big Assembly at Twickenham on Friday morning. We arranged for our staff and students to travel down to London with those attending from local primary schools and they tell me that it was a very memorable and worthwhile event.

As part of our Advent charity work, students from St John Fisher Catholic High School have been collecting food to put in hampers for homeless families in Peterborough. There has been a great response from our students, many of whom have brought in much more than expected. This spirit of generosity is commendable at a time of financial difficulty. Our students feel very strongly about the need to help others in our City who are vulnerable, homeless and poor.

St John Fisher Catholic High School celebrated National Science and Engineering week with a spectacular event for Year 7 students on the Wednesday 23rd March.
In conjunction with the theme of ‘How Science Works’, students were tasked with writing a short blurb relating to their knowledge and understanding of science facts. Individual student’s then attached these to helium filled balloons and released them simultaneously.
Each balloon was marked with a specific code relating to individual students so that any recovered could be entered in to a prize draw.
The event also gave an opportunity for the students to reflect on the importance of science in our everyday lives. Students were given a quite period of reflection to remember events such as natural disasters that have displaced and destroyed lives across the world. Students shared their thoughts and prayers with those who are sick and that Science may play a role in helping them to recover.

Students and staff are donating unwanted clothes which will be given to a local Salvation Army Charity shop in Whittlesey, Peterborough. This will be part of an ongoing incentive to recycle and be more environmentally friendly.

It was a great success, with students and staff participating together in 9 different activities, ranging from Human Table Football through to Golf.

The students arrived in their house PE kit and with their banners and faces painted in the colours of their House. Staff and students all commented how much fun the day had been. It was everything we expected and more and our thanks go to Mr Baron, Head of PE, who arranged it all.
